About Hardware Connection

By default, a hardware connection is a link between a channel and a port or between two ports, which share the same connector type or a generic type.

If a configuration of connection rules has been defined by an Administrator through matrices, connections can be heterogeneous and follow these matrices describing the set of allowed connections.

Note: Racks are considered as topology. That is, commands available on topologies are also available on racks. As a consequence the creation of connections based on racks are nearly the same as for topologies.

Connection Types

You can create different types of connections depending on the elements to be connected.

The following types of connections can be established:

  • Delegation connection: A connection between a parent topology and an EE component instance or a connection between a parent topology and a subsystem.
  • Assembly connection: A connection between an EE component or a subsystem, and a channel. Most of the time, assembly connections are named connections.
    Note: A particular connection can be created when the path of the connections contains delegation connections. For example, a direct connection can be created between the ports of two subsystems.

Interface Types

The interfaces act in the ports connections.

In a topology, you can create:

  • Buses: Connects two EE component ports if their ports have compatible types. All CAN types are compatible and all Ethernet types are compatible. For more information, see About Communication Protocol Standards.
  • Wires: Connects two EE component ports if their ports have compatible types.
  • Generic wires: Connects two EE component ports even if their ports have different types.
