Creating Functional Connections

You can create a connection in several ways.

These assembly connections can be created from the context menus or from the functional view.

Create Connections

You can create a connection between two selected ports.

Before you begin:
  • Create two functions or subfunctions. For more information, see Create Function.
  • Create a port for each function. For more information, see Create Port.
  1. Right-click the Connections node of a root function or a subfunction and select Create Connection .
  2. Enter these details for the new connection:

    Box Name Description
    Transmitter Select a function or a subfunction.
    Transmitter port/subport Select the start port or subport for the connection.
    Receiver Select a function or a subfunction (depending on your choice for the transmitter).
    Receiver port/subport Select the end port or subport for the connection.
    Note: To create heterogeneous connections, clear Hide receiver ports with different flow than transmitter port.

The connection is added and appears under the Connections node of the parent function.

Create All Connections

For a selected function or a subfunction, you can create all its connections in one step.

Before you begin:
  • Create two functions or subfunctions. For more information, see Create Function.
  • Create a port for each function. For more information, see Create Port.
  1. Right-click the Connections node and select Create All Connections .
  2. Optional: If you can create delegation or assembly connections, select the connections to create in the Delegation, Assembly areas, or both.

The new connections are added and appear under the Connections node of the parent function.

Create Connections from Ports

You can create connections from ports.

Before you begin:
  • Create two functions or subfunctions. For more information, see Create Function.
  • Create a port for each function. For more information, see Create Port.
  1. Right-click a port and select Connect Port in Function .

    Tip: You can also use the Connect Port in Parent Function command, if the port belongs to a subfunction.

  2. Depending on the port direction, enter these details for the new connection:
    • For an Out port:
      Box Name Description
      Transmitter Select a function or a subfunction.
      Transmitter port/subport Select the start port or subport for the connection.
    • For an In port:
      Box Name Description
      Receiver Select a function or a subfunction.
      Receiver port/subport Select the end port or subport for the connection.

    Note: To create heterogeneous connections, clear Hide receiver ports with different flow than transmitter port.

The new connection is added and appears under the Connections node of the function or parent function.
