Connecting Electrical Devices to Branches Automatically

You can use the Devices Connection Assistant to automatically create distant links of the smallest possible length. Those distant links can be created to connect devices to their nearest branch or to connect devices to branches you specify.

Important: The command is not available for splices.

  1. In the work area, select a product or a device.

Multiselection of more than one device is available.

  2. From the Device section of the action bar, click Devices Connection Assistant .
    • In the Devices Connection Assistant panel, selected devices are listed in a table.

Hover over parts of the screen to see the name for that section. Click any blue-bordered area for more information.

      • The devices which are not already connected to a branch are checked in the list.
      • For devices which are already connected to a branch with a distant link, the name and the electrical branch geometry of the branch are provided.
Tip: Use the filters to easily manage the display of the devices in the table.
    • In the 3D area, checked devices are highlighted.

  3. Under Link, select either of the following:
    ModeDescription
Link Auto Creates the shortest distant link between the checked devices and their nearest branch.
Link To Creates the shortest distant link between the checked devices and the branch or the branches you specify.
Note: To do so, click a branch or an electrical branch geometry in the work area.
  4. Optional: In the Extra Length box, enter a value.

Adding an extra length to a distant link improves the routing of conductors.

  5. Under Distance from branch first end, select either of the following:
    ModeDescription
Ratio Computes the distance between the point on curve and the branch extremity in Ratio mode.
Length Computes the distance between the point on curve and the branch extremity in Length mode.

For more information about these modes, see Connection Between Devices and Branches.

  6. Click Connect Devices .

Important: If you create new distant links for devices which are already connected, you are prompted to validate the removal of existing distant links and the creation of new ones.

Distant links are created and are aggregated under the Engineering Connections node in the tree.
Tip: To display the distant links and their length in the 3D area, click a line in the table.
