Converting Flat Cables into Regular Branches

You can convert a flat cable into a regular branch. There is no particular command but each modification implying a profile change (shape or dimensions) will lead to the flat cable conversion into a multi-profile branch.

Before you begin: Create an electrical branch geometry and a first flat cable. See Creating Flat Cables.

The flat cable contains two segments.

  1. Double-click the flat cable.
The Branch Definition dialog box appears.
  2. Click Segment Definition.
The Segment Definition dialog box is displayed.

  3. To convert a flat cable into a regular branch, do one of the following:
    1. Change the Profile Type.

A warning message is displayed informing you that the flat cable properties will be lost and the branch will be multi-profile.

Note: The same warning message may appear if you change the Profile Type in the Profile Management window.

Click OK and you obtain a multi-profile branch:

    2. Change the dimensions of the flat cable and a warning message is displayed. You can either keep the flat cable properties and propagate them along the branch or apply the modifications to the current segment and convert the branch into a multi-profile one.
Note: The same warning may appear if you change the dimensions of a point in the Section Parameters of the Profile Management window.

If you click Keep flat cable properties and propagate them along the branch, the branch remains a flat cable but the section of the flat cable will change into a new value.

If you click Apply the modifications to the current segment and convert the branch into a multi-profile one, you can convert the flat cable into a regular branch.

    Warning:
    • If you delete the connector containing the section properties, the flat cable will not be converted into a regular branch.
    • Concerning flat cables, it is not possible to have different profiles along the branch. Otherwise if you try to modify section parameters, one of the warnings described above (step a and b) will appear.
