Defining a Backshell

You can define a backshell and add an electrical behavior to a standard 3D shape.

A backshell is used to guide the ends of conductors and to protect the crimping area.


Before you begin: Create a mechanical product containing a standard 3D shape.

About Electrical Devices
  1. Double-click a 3D shape representation or an electrical device in the tree.
    The app switches to Electrical 3D Part Design.
  2. From the Device section of the action bar, click Backshell .

    The BackShell Definition dialog box appears.

  3. Specify a Part Number.
  4. In the Extra length box, type a value.

    Note: The Extra Length corresponds to the conductor length which is needed to connect a segment with a single insert connector through a backshell.

  5. Click OK to validate.

    The selected part is now an electrical backshell.
