Creating and Managing Net or Net Group Branches

You can create and manage net branches on an existing net or net group.

This task shows you how to:

Add a Branch

You can add a net branch between the following objects:

  • Two unconnected pins
  • A pin connected to the current net and an unconnected pin
  • A net and an unconnected pin

In this scenario, a net connection between a non connected pin and a route is created.

Before you begin: Open an existing diagram view containing:
  • Two equipments connected by a net. The second equipment must have a free pin. For more information, see Routing Nets and Net Groups.
  • A component which is not connected
  1. In the diagram view, click the net.
  2. On the context toolbar, click Add Net Connections .

Note: This command is also available from the context menu.

The Route Command dialog box appears.
  3. Select the unconnected pin.

A context toolbar appears, containing commands to create an elbow or a straight route line.
  4. Select one of the three commands according to the type of route to be created:
    Type of RouteDescription
Single-Step Line Route To create a route line without defining its path.
Straight-Line Route To create a straight route line or a route line with intermediate points.
Note: Routes are kept neither horizontal nor vertical.
Angled Line Route To create a route line with a defined angle (90 or 45 degrees). The route ends with a horizontal or vertical segment.
    Notes:
    • To not end the route with a horizontal or vertical segment, press Ctrl before selecting the target component.
    • The angle remains the same even if the path of the route is modified afterward.

Note: Intermediate points can be manipulated when routing with Angled Line Route and Straight-Line Route.

  5. Click the net at the convenient place to create the second end of the branch.

In the diagram view:

  • A new net branch is created between the net representation and the selected pin.
  • A branch point symbol is created on the existing route.
  • The route is split.

In the tree, a port is created under the Ports node of the net.

Place a Branch in View

When a branch connects two equipments which are already placed in the diagram view, you can place this branch in the diagram view.

You can place in view a net branch between the following objects:

  • Two pins
  • A pin and a net route
  • A branch symbol and a pin
  • Two branch symbols

Before you begin: Open a diagram view containing:
  • Two equipments connected by a net
  • A third equipment that is not connected in the diagram view
  1. Select a net.
  2. On the context toolbar, click Route in View Net Connections .
The pins connected by the branch are highlighted.

  3. Select the first pin.

A context toolbar appears. It contains commands to create an elbow or a straight route line.

  5. Select the second pin.

The branch is placed in the diagram view.

Remove a Branch from View

Before you begin: Open an existing diagram view containing three equipments connected by a net.
  1. Select the branch to be removed.
  2. On the context toolbar, click Remove Net Connections .
The net branch is removed from the diagram view.

Delete a Branch

You can delete a branch.

  1. Select a net.
  2. On the context toolbar, click Delete Net Connections .

In the diagram view, the branch is deleted. The connection point connecting the branches is deleted and the two remaining branches are merged together.

In the tree, the port connecting the deleted branch with the other branches of the net is also deleted.
