Creating a Wire/Wire Shield Reference

You can create a wire reference or a wire shield reference. One or more wires can then be grouped in a cable.

Important: A cable cannot group more than one wire shield.

  • Create a diagram view under the logical reference (Electrical System).

Create New Wire/Wire Shield

You can create a new wire or wire shield reference.

  1. Activate the diagram view.
  2. From the Edition section of the action bar, click Create New Reference .

    Tip: This command is also available from the Spreadsheet.

  3. In the New content dialog box, expand the Electrical Logical tab and select one of the following references:
    • Logical Wire
    • Logical Wire shield
  4. Enter the necessary information. In this scenario, Wire 1 is entered as a name.

    Note: To create the wire automatically, clear the Set attributes at creation option.

  5. Click OK.

    In the tree, under the parent component (Electrical System), note that:

    • A Wire1 node is created.
    • An Extensions node is created to store all electrical objects. In our example, it aggregates a Wires node containing the extended electrical component (Wire 1).


    In the active diagram view, the Route Command dialog box appears. You can route your wire or close the Route Command dialog box. For more information about routing wires, see Routing Wires.

Create Wire From Existing

You can create a wire from an existing reference.

Before you begin: In the tree, create a wire reference.
  1. Right-click the logical reference in the tree and from the context menu, select Insert Existing Logical Component.
  2. In the tree, select the existing wire reference.

    Tip: You can select a wire reference from a catalog, from database or in session.

    A new wire reference is created.

    In the active diagram view, the Route Command dialog box appears. You can route your wire or close the Route Command dialog box. For more information about routing wires, see Routing Wires.
