About Part Set to Production
Set to Production changes the release phase of a part from Development to Production. Once set to production, the part's release phase cannot be set back to Development.
The Set to Production command is available on the part Properties page only if:
- You have the role of either Design Engineer, Senior Design Engineer, Leader, or Author.
- The part is in the Development release phase.
- The Development phase part is the latest revision.
- The part is the latest revision.
- The part is not in the Obsolete state.
The Set to Production command is NOT available:
- When editing a development part.
- When there is an item markup created for BOM Set to Production.
- When the part is already in the production release phase.
When you set to production a part that is In Work, the release phase for the part changes from Development to Production. If the part is in the "Frozen" or the "Released" state:
- You are prompted to create or select a change order or change request. When you release the corresponding CA, the markup is applied and the release phase of the part is updated to Production. When the part is in Production, you will be prompted to revise the part.
- For parts in the Production state, you are prompted whether to select a revision:
- If you do not select a revision, the markup is applied and the release phase of the part is updated to Production on release of the corresponding CA.
- If you select a revision, a new revision is created with the Production phase applied and is attached to CO with requested change as For release.
- An item markup is created and approved. (See the Markups tab in the part Engineering BOM category.)
- The part remains in the same lifecycle state in the Production release phase as it was in the Development phase.
- The CO Requested Change status is "For Update" (see the Change Order tab in the Change Management category).
- If the part, while in In Work and in the Development release phase, has an incomplete change action applied to it, the part is moved to the Production release phase with the incomplete CA attached. You then use the CA to release the part. For parts in the Frozen state, the same CA is used to apply Set To production. But parts are moved to production only when the CA is completed.
If the part is in the Released state and you apply set to production, you can choose Revise Part when you create markup.
- If you select Revise Part, a new part revision is created and is connected to a CO. The new revision change value is set as For Release and its release phase is Production. The release phase for the current revision remains at Development.
- If you don't select Revise Part, no new revision is created and the current revision change value is set as For update. The release phase for the current revision remains at Development.
