About Part Revisions

The history of updates to a part are listed as revisions of that part. A serialized numbering scheme identifies the revisions.

The numbering scheme for development policy and production policy part revisions is designed to follow industry standards. Development part revisions follow an alphabetical scheme (A, B, C, etc.) whereas production part revisions follow a numeric scheme (1, 2, 3, etc.). If you move a part from development to production (using the Set to Production command), subsequent revisions of the production part continue to use the alphabetical scheme. To modify the part revision scheme, contact your administrator.

For Administrators: You can customize part revision schemes for development and production policy parts using the Collaborative Spaces Control Center. See the topic "Configuring Revision Sequences".

About Set to Production

  • If an enterprise part that has manufacturer equivalents is revised, then the Start Effectivity Date and the End Effectivity Date on the Manufacturer Equivalent relationships between the in-process revision of this enterprise part and the equivalent parts are set to blank.
  • You cannot create revisions for configured parts.
  • Unit of Measure type for a revised part will be the same as that of the previously released part.
  • The Unit of Measure type for existing old revisions is updated based on the Unit of Measure defined on the part revision. For older revisions, the value of Unit of Measure may be different across multiple revisions because a user may have changed this intentionally to correct the Unit of Measure.
  • You can attach a part revision to only one change object. If you create another revision of a part, you must manually attach the new revision as a proposed change with the "For Release" option.
