Creating Part Revisions

You can create revisions of parts. The Revisions list shows all revisions for the context part.

Required Access Roles:

  • App-specific: Component Engineer, Design Engineer, Senior Design Engineer, Product Obsolescence Manager, Part Family Coordinator
  • Baseline: Author or Leader.

To create a part revision:

  • The part cannot be in the Obsolete state.
  • You must be assigned to the same collaborative space in which the part resides.

If an enterprise part that has manufacturer equivalents is revised, then the Start Effectivity Date and the End Effectivity Date on the Manufacturer Equivalent relationships between the in-process revision of this enterprise part and the equivalent parts are set to blank.

Note: When you create a new revision of a part, the latest unreleased version of any specification may be attached to the part is floated to the new revision of the part. The specification must be released for the new revision to be released.


Before you begin:

Access a part Properties page. For details, see Part Properties.

  1. Click the Revisions tab to show a page containing basic information about revisions that have been created for the part. See Part Revisions for information about the Revisions table.
  2. To create a revision of the part, click Create New Revision, , from the toolbar. Only users with create access for parts will see this command.
  3. Make changes to the part attributes, as required.

    Field Description
    Type Select the type of part you want to create. Click if you are creating a subtype. See Selecting a Type.
    Note: When you select a Raw Material, design collaboration is turned off and disabled.
    Name The part name, which is also the name of the part to be duplicated.
    Title The product name value that corresponds to the CATIA name. Enter a title. If left empty, the title and the part name will be shown as the title.
    Options - Enable Change Required Indicate whether change management is required for the part. For development phase parts, change management is optional and you can either select or clear this box. This box is automatically selected and cannot be cleared:

    • If the previous revision of the part is a production phase part and had change enabled.
    • if you select a change action in the Work Under Change field. The created part becomes change-required.

    Note: If you apply change management to a part without selecting a Work Under Change while creating the part, you must still select a work under CA before you can edit the part.

    When a part is under change management, the associated CO/CA controls the release of the part.

    Part revisions are treated independently. One revision of a part can be under change management in one lifecycle state while another revision is in a different state or not under change management at all.

    Options - Design Collaboration Select whether this part will be synchronized to CATIA or the Native app.
    Note: When you select a Raw Material, design collaboration is turned off and disabled.
    Description Type details that describe the new part.
    Organization

    The organization type for change responsibility is a business unit, but it can be any type derived from organization, company, business unit or department. When you select an organization, its title appears in this field.

    Owner The person responsible for the duplicate. Typically, the person who is responsible for the part to be duplicated.
    Work Under Change Assign a work under change action (CA) to the part. The work under CA is required if you enable change management; otherwise, the work under CA is optional. See About Work Under Changes.
    Engineering
    Unit of Measure Select a unit of measure from the list and a unit of measurement type (Weight, etc.). You can modify the type in the Bill of Materials only when adding a part using either the Insert Part > Insert as Child > New Part or Insert Part > Insert Below > New Part commands. Otherwise, you cannot edit the type.
    Estimated Weight Type the estimated weight of the part and select a unit of measure for the weight from the list.
    Target Release Date Click and select a target date for the part to become effective in the bill of materials.

    The actual effective date is determined by the release date of the change object, which releases the bill of materials the part is used in.

    Supply Chain/Production
    End Item Indicate whether the part is an end item and may include subassemblies and components.
    Estimated Cost The approximate cost of the duplicate
    Target Cost Type the estimated cost per part. Select the currency.
    Spare Part Specify whether the part is to be used as a spare.
    Phase Select either Development or Production from the list. For Development phase parts, change management is optional; but required for Production phase parts. This applies to configured and unconfigured parts.

  4. Click OK to add the new part revision to the database.
