About Multiple Ownership for Parts

You can assign ownership for a part, a configured part, or MEP to multiple Engineering BOM Management users with each user having their own level of security. For MEPs, you must be either the part owner or have the Component Engineer role to assign multiple owners. For all other parts, you must be either the part owner or have the Design Engineer or Senior Design Engineer role.

You can assign ownership to organizations, projects, organization/project pairs, or individual users. If a part is revised or edited, its security stays the same.

Note: Any user who leaves an organization or project relinquishes all access they had to object(s) they owned while a member of that organization or project. The user is still shown as the object(s) owner but their access is the same as that of other outside users.

Who Can Assign Multiple Ownership

The table below displays who can assign multiple ownership to parts of a specific policy and state.

Part Policy / Release Phase State Users

Frozen the part owner
EC Part in Development Phase In Work Design Engineer, Senior Design Engineer, the part owner
Frozen the part owner
Configured Part In Work Design Engineer, Senior Design Engineer, the part owner
Released Design Engineer, Senior Design Engineer, the part owner
Manufacturing Equivalent Part (MEP) In Work Component Engineer, the part owner
Frozen Component Engineer, the part owner
Approved Component Engineer, the part owner
Released Component Engineer
Pending Obsolete Component Engineer
All parts in all part policies and release phases All Owner, Leader, and Author

Access Levels

Owners may be assigned one of these access levels:

Access Level Definition
Read read, show
Read and Connect read, show, connect to or from other objects
Read Write read, show, modify
Revise read, show, revise

Engineering BOM Management follows these rules for user access levels:

  • Having a particular role or changing roles has no effect on a user's access.
  • If a part is revised, ownership access of the original part is copied to the new revision.
  • If a part is duplicated, ownership access of the original part is not copied to the duplicate.
  • User cannot connect to or modify an EC part that is in the Released state.
  • When assigned Multiple Ownership 'Revise' access level for a part or specification object, a user also has write access, which allows any modification on the object. Similarly, when assigned Multiple Ownership Read and Write access level for a part or specification object, a user also has revise access.
Note: Users do not need to explicitly add or remove privileges through multiple ownership to add or remove change object from parts or to remove configuration criteria from configured parts.
