Canceling a Change Order

Reasons to cancel a CO during the change management process include:

Required Access Roles:

  • Baseline: Leader, Author
  • App-specific: Design Engineer, Senior Design Engineer
  • A similar CO exists in process.
  • A significant issue prevents the implementation of the CO.
  • A functional or safety issue is discovered after the CO is approved.

When you cancel a CO:

  • All proposed changes connected to the CO are disconnected.
  • All routes connected to the CO are disconnected. The route owner receives notification that the route has been canceled. If the CO is the only route content, the route stops.
  • Route templates connected to the CO are disconnected.
  • All assignees, distribution list and reviewer list members, and the CO originator are notified that the CO has been canceled.
  • Related tasks are removed from the CR and CO Tasks pages and from each user's My Tasks page.
  • The CO is moved to the Canceled state.


Before you begin:

Access the Properties page for a CO. See Properties of Change Actions with Applicability.

  1. From the page Actions menu or toolbar, click Cancel CO.

    WarningThis is a read-only field that displays the text: "This will halt the CO's lifecycle and end the change management process for its connected items. Enter a reason and click Done to complete the processing. Click Cancel for the CO to continue through its lifecycle."
    ReasonType the reason for canceling the CO.
    Proposed ChangesSelect whether to keep or delete proposed changes. You can click Review Change Actions from the Cancel CO page toolbar to open the CO proposed changes form.
    ECR ConnectionsSelect whether to disconnect the canceled CO from its associated CRs or keep it connected.

  2. Click Done. A confirmation message is shown. Click OK to cancel the CO.
