Converting a Placeholder MEP into a MEP

When you are ready to make a Placeholder MEP into an actual manufacturer equivalent part in the database, you can convert the Placeholder to a MEP.

You can convert the Placeholder MEP to a MEP in either of two ways.

Assign a New MEP Object to a Placeholder MEP

You can convert the Placeholder MEP to a MEP by assigning a new MEP object.

Required Access Roles:

  • Baseline: Leader, Author
  • App-specific: Component Engineer, Senior Design Engineer, Senior Manufacturing Engineer

  1. Access a part’s Equivalents page.
  2. Click the check box of the Placeholder MEP that you want to convert to a MEP.
  3. From the Actions menu, select Assign New Part to Placeholder.
  4. Provide a Part Name, Type, Revision, Collaborative Policy, and Description.
  5. Click OK.

The new Manufacturer Equivalent Part object is created with the name and revision you provided and copies the attributes from the Placeholder MEP to it.

Replace a Placeholder MEP with an Existing MEP

You can convert the Placeholder MEP to a MEP by replacing the placeholder MEP with an existing MEP.

Required Access Roles:

  • Baseline: Leader, Author
  • App-specific: Component Engineer, Design Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Senior Design Engineer, Senior Manufacturing Engineer

  1. Access a part’s Equivalents tab.
  2. Click the check box of the Placeholder MEP that you want to replace with an existing MEP.
  3. From the Actions menu, select Assign Existing Part to Placeholder.
    A Search page opens for you to search for and select a MEP.
  4. Click Submit.

The Placeholder MEP is replaced with the existing MEP you selected.
