Creating a CAD Drawing

A CAD drawing is a type of specification. You can assign the CAD drawing to a part as you create the drawing or simply add it to the database for later use. After you create the CAD Drawing object, you can upload files to it.

Required Access Roles:

  • Baseline: Author, Leader
  • App-specific: Design Engineer, Senior Design Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, or Senior Manufacturing Engineer

Editing Specification Details
  1. Do one of the following:
    • Click > Engineering > Specifications > Create CAD Drawing.
    • From a part's Specifications page, click Create New from the page Actions menu. See Specifications.
    Only users with Create access for CAD drawings will see these links.
  2. Enter details about the CAD drawing, including the following:

    Attribute Description
    Type (required) Click and select CAD Drawing as the type.
    Name and AutoName Series (required) The CAD drawing name, which you can either enter or allow the system to generate. To enter it, type a unique name into the Name field. Otherwise, click AutoName and select an option from the AutoName Series list.
    Title Enter a title for the CAD drawing.
    Collaborative Policy (required) To use a policy other than the one shown, click the arrow to select a different policy from the list. This is displayed only if more than one policy is available for you to use.
    Related Part If you are creating a CAD drawing from the part's specification tab, this field contains the part name and is read-only. Otherwise, click to select the part to connect to the CAD drawing. Only parts that are in the In Work state are available. See Predefined Queries for details.
    Description Enter details that describe the CAD drawing.
    Model Type Enter details about the type of the associated model, if any.

  3. Click OK.
