Making a Part Obsolete

If a part is no longer required in assemblies, you can create a change order to make it Obsolete. The part is moved to the Obsolete state and is no longer available for any new BOM.

Note: A Production phase part cannot be promoted to Obsolete if it is a child of a Production phase parent unless the parent is in the Obsolete state.

See Promoting an Item.

Required Access Roles:

  • App-specific: Design Engineer or Senior Design Engineer, Product Obsolescence Manager.
  • Baseline: Leader
Note: As either a Product Obsolescence Manager or Leader, you can use the part's Lifecycle page to manually promote the part to Obsolete without a CO.

  1. Access the edit mode of a Proposed Changes page for a CO. See Editing Proposed Changes.
  2. Change the Requested Change attribute to "For Obsolescence." You must be the change initiator or an assignee.

When the CO is promoted to Completed, all parts that have a Requested Change value of "For Obsolescence" are promoted to the Obsolete state.

When a child part is promoted to Obsolete, the End Effectivity Date is set on the EBOM relationship between that part and its parent assembly to the date this part enters the Obsolete state.
