Export of Libraries, Classes, and Classified Items to 3D XML

You can export a library and its classified content to 3D XML, with the Export 3D XML batch, or from a Search results tab with the Export command.

This page discusses:

Exportable Content

You can export a general libraries and its classified content.

Note: You cannot export Part libraries and Document libraries.

When you export a library, you first need to export the library structure, and then export its content. To do so, you can export:

  • The whole content of the library
  • The whole content of a class
  • Classified items with their classification information

Exporting and Importing Libraries, Classes, and Classified Items

The creation or modification of libraries and classification content has an impact on classification metadata. Thus, you cannot import 3D XML files containing a library along with classified items in one operation, because the classified items rely on updated metadata. Hence, you have to export the library structure first and then export the classified content.

Exporting a Library and Its Classified Content

  1. Export the library structure to 3D XML with authoring format:

Important: Do not select the Export library with content option.

Only the library structure (library, classes, and subclasses) is exported. Classified items are not exported.

  2. Export classified items by doing one of the following:

    Action Description
Export all the classified items of the library Export the library as in Step 1, but select the Export library with content option.

The library structure and all its classified items are exported.

Export all the classified items of a class
    • With the Export command: Search for a class, select it, and in the top bar, click Share > Export.

For more information, see Exporting Content to 3D XML Files.

    • With the Export 3D XML batch: Open the Export 3D XML and select the class.

For more information, see Running the Export 3D XML Batch.

All its subclasses, parent classes, and parent libraries are exported. Siblings are not exported. The classified items that belong to the class and their whole structure are also exported.

    Export a classified item
    • With the Export command: Search for a classified item, select it, and in the top bar, click Share > Export.

Select the With whole structure option.

For more information, see Exporting Content to 3D XML Files.

    • With the Export 3D XML batch: Open the Export 3D XML and select the classified item.

Select the Propagate to all children option.

For more information, see Running the Export 3D XML Batch.

The classified item is exported with its classification information, and relations to the class it belongs to (with a reference to the parent class).

Note: You can import a classified item without its class or library structure. If the parent class does not exist on the distant site, the classification information is removed, and the classified item is still imported.

Important: If the library structure is modified (it can be a creation of a class or a sub class, association of a classification attribute, or classification or declassification of an object) between the two exports, to refresh local metadata, disconnect from the 3DEXPERIENCE, wait for at least 5 minutes, and reconnect to a new 3DEXPERIENCE session.

Importing a Library and Its Classified Content

  1. Create all the required classification attributes.

Important: Classification attributes are not exported. After import, the classes are imported, but the classification attributes that are associated with them must already exist on the distant site.

If a classification attribute associated with a class does not exist on the distant site, an error message appears and the import stops.

  2. Import as reference the 3D XML file that only contains the library structure (see Export a library - Step 1). For more information, see Importing 3D XML Files.

This creates the library structure (library with all the subclasses). It also updates classification metadata on the server, but does not refresh it on client side yet.

  3. To refresh the classification metadata on the client side with the updates, disconnect from the 3DEXPERIENCE, wait for at least 5 minutes, and then reconnect to a new 3DEXPERIENCE session.

  4. Import as reference the 3D XML file that contains the classified content (see Export - Step 2).

The library and classes are seen as already imported, so they are not modified, and the classification metadata is not updated.

The classified items are created with their classification attributes and values. The relations between classified items and classification are also imported. The classified items are automatically reconnected to the already-imported library and classes.

Considerations about Export and Import

The following options and operations are not available for libraries and classes.

  • 3D XML for review export format.
  • Import as New format.
  • Compatibility mode option.
  • Delegate, Waive, and Revoke operations for libraries and classes, and Detach operation once they are imported as reference. For more information, see About Site Ownership.

Propagation options (Whole structure in the Export command, and Propagate to all children in the Export 3D XML batch) have no effect when exporting a library or a class. The whole structure is always exported. For more information, see Exportable Content.

The maturity of libraries and classes during exchanges is managed with the InfraMaturityStateInformation business logic. If this opening ID is not implemented on export and import sites, the maturity value of the exchanged library or class is defined to Inactive. For more information, see Installation and Setup: Customize: 3DEXPERIENCE Platform: Behavior: Data Setup: List of Resource Set IDs: Infrastructure Business Logics:Business Logic for Object Typing: Retrieving Information on Maturity State (INFRAMaturityStateInformation).
