Importing from IGES 3D

You can import data from a disk-based IGES 3D file.

Before you begin:
  • Select the required options for IGES.

For more information about their behavior, read the IGES 3D Concepts.

  • Check the standards you are using: The IGES standards 5.2 and 5.3 are supported. The latter is year 2000-compliant.
Tip: The IGES standard 5.3 is downloadable from http://www.uspro.org/documents/.
Import the IGES3D ( *.igs) file as explained in Import.

IGES files must contain only ASCII 1-byte characters.

  • A progress bar is displayed while the content is converted and saved. If the save operation fails, a failure message is displayed and the import is aborted.
  • See About Reports for more information about result check.
  • A product structure with eventually several sub-products, and at least one 3D shape representation containing the data imported is created. See About Structures.
  • The quality of imported data is checked, and a geometry quality enhancement is performed according to the corresponding customizing option. See About Geometry Quality Enhancement.
  • The tolerance used is the default tolerance defined in Part Design.
  • Properties such as the original colors, the show status, names (if they exist) are maintained in your session.
  • Solids and volumes are imported as joined shells.
  • Texts, annotations and 2D geometry are not converted.
  • Other entities are imported as follows:

  • Independent planes 108 form 0 are imported.
  • Independent planes 108 form 0 are displayed as a small square.

  • If the surface is not of type BSpline and C2 continuous, only the Geometry type curves "Curve on a parametric surface" and "Boundary" are taken into account for face creation.
  • 2D Parametric type curves are ignored.

plane surface entity 190 form 0-1 -All the surfaces are faces support surfaces:
  • They must be used with entities of type 143, 144 and 510.
  • Those surfaces are infinite (not limited).
  • If a face supported by one of those surfaces cannot be correctly imported, the created "invalid Face" and containing surfaces and curves can present visualization problems on infinite surfaces graphic representation.
