Creating Services Projects

You can create services projects. You can also convert a Swym Idea into a Business Initiatives project. For more information, see 3DSwym: Transferring Ideas To Business Initiative Projects.

Required license role: Services Product Manager, Services Product Developer

Required access roles: Leader


Before you begin: These items must already exist and be available:
  • Services project template for the project type
  • Business Unit
  • Business Goal (for Business Initiative Projects only)
  1. Open the Create Project dialog box from one of these locations:

    • From the top bar, click Add > Services Management > Create Project.
    • From the Projects list, click Actions > Create Project. For more information, see Projects Page.

  2. Enter these details:

    Field Description
    Type To select a different type of services project:
    1. Click and expand the tree.
    2. Select the type of project.
    3. Click Select.

    Policy Project Space. You cannot change the policy.
    Name A short name for the project. Click Autoname to have the app assign the project name.
    Title Enter a descriptive title for the project. The title is especially helpful when you use autoname for the project name.
    Project Template Click and search for the required template. For more information, see Predefined Queries. You can only choose templates that support the selected type.
    Copy Options Select the check boxes for the items in the template that you want to use in this project:

    Financials Includes the template's financial data.
    Folders Includes the template's folders. The search results only show objects of the type "Documents".
    Constraints Includes the template's tasks constraints.

    Description A brief description of the project.
    Sponsor Click to select the person who advocates for the project.
    Business Unit Click to select a business unit.
    Program Click to search for program to associate with this project. The search results list programs from collaborative spaces associated with the logged-in user.
    Business Goal Only shows for a Business Initiatives Project.

    Click to search for a business goal that this project is intended to meet. For more information, see Predefined Queries.

    Visibility Select who should have access to this project:

    Option Description
    Company If a company visible project is created when you are logged in with a particular Organization/Collaborative Space, the project is stamped with that Organization/Collaborative Space. All users who belong to that Organization are given access to the project, regardless of the Collaborative Space.
    Members If a member visible project is created when you are logged in with a particular Organization/Collaborative Space, the project is stamped with that Organization/Collaborative Space. All users who belong to that Organization/Collaborative Space are given access to the project.

    Schedule From

    Schedule From. Select an option from the drop-down menu:

    • Project Start Date. Schedule the project based on when you start.
    • Project Finish Date. Schedules the project based on when it must be finished.
    Priority Select Low, Medium, or High.
    Project Date The date on which the project is estimated to start or finish, based on the value of the Schedule From field. To change the date, click . When using a start date, the default is today's date. Depending on how tasks are added to the project, the tasks may take on this date by default. For example, if you add tasks from scratch, they automatically have the same estimated start date as the project. For more information about estimated start dates, see About Tasks.
    Default Task Constraint The default constraint type for project tasks.
    • As Soon As Possible
    • As Late As Possible
    Base Currency The currency in which financial data is stored. The base currency applies to budgets, benefits, resource requests, and forecasts. You cannot change the base currency after the project is created.

    To see the project's functionality in another currency, set your Currency Preference to that currency as described in Web App Preferences.

  3. Click Done.

    You can also click Apply to create the project without closing the dialog box to continue creating projects. In this way, you only need to edit the fields that change for subsequent projects instead of having to enter all of the information again.

To complete defining the project:

  • Edit any existing Services Products that this project will govern to add the project as a governing project. For more information, see Product Line Management User's Guide: Editing Model Version Properties
  • Add project members. These members should have at minimum the Services Product Contributor license role and the Contributor access role.
  • Define all required tasks on the Schedule page. for more information, see Project Management User's Guide:Working With Task Scheduling.
