Copying Bodies Including Functional Solids and Detailed Features

You can copy a functional solid from one document to another, then edit the initial geometry to see if those changes are reflected in the target document. This task also shows you how the app harmonizes this type of ulterior modifications.

Before you begin: Open a 3D shape representation.

  1. Right-click on the body and select Copy.
The PartBody contains the geometry of Solid Functional Set.x.
  2. Open a new 3D shape representation and position the pointer anywhere in the tree.
  3. Right-click and select Paste Special .

The Paste Special dialog box that appears provides three paste options.

    • As specified in Part document: The object is copied with its design specifications.
    • As Result With Link: The object is copied without its design specifications and the link is maintained between the reference and the copy.
    • As Result: The object is copied without its design specifications and there is no link between the reference and the copy.

For more information, see the 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps User's Guide.

  4. Select As Result With Link to copy the geometry without its design specifications. The link is maintained between the reference and the copy.
  5. Click OK to confirm.
Solid Functional Set.x is copied into the new document. You will notice that the tree displays it under the name of Solid.x. A cube represents this solid.
  6. Return to the first representation to edit its original geometry which supports the feature.
  7. Then, from the Refine section of the action bar, use the Part Design Edge Fillet command to fillet one of the lateral edges of the body.
  8. The cube graphic symbol used for Solid.x in the tree now contains a red cross. This means that the initial PartBody underwent transformations.
  9. To integrate the changes, right-click Solid.x and select Synchronize.

The copy reflects the change: the edited geometry and the new edge fillet is added.
