Copying Solid Functional Sets

You can copy a solid functional set (containing functional features) from one representation to another, then add a functional feature to the initial geometry to see if those changes are reflected in the target representation.

This scenario shows you how the app harmonizes these types of modifications.

Before you begin: Open a 3D shape representation with a shellable feature and a cutout feature.

  1. Right-click the required body and select Copy.
  2. Open a new representation and position the pointer anywhere in the tree.
  3. Right-click and select Paste Special .

The Paste Special dialog box that appears provides three paste options.

    • As specified in Part document: The object is copied with its design specifications.
    • As Result With Link: The object is copied without its design specifications and the link is maintained between the reference and the copy.
    • As Result: The object is copied without its design specifications and there is no link between the reference and the copy.

For details, see the 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps User's Guide.

  4. Select As Result With Link to maintain the link between the reference and the copy.
  5. Click OK to confirm.

Body is copied into the new document. A cube with a green hand with thumb up represents this solid.

  6. Return into the first representation to add a functional feature. For example, create a functional hole.
  7. Take a look at the new 3D shape: the cube graphic symbol used for the first body in the tree now contains a red hand with thumb down. This means that the initial solid functional set underwent transformations.
  8. To integrate the changes, click Links & Relations from the Tools section of the action bar.
The Edit Links and Relations dialog box is displayed.
  9. Click Synchronize Link.
  10. Click OK.
The 3D shape is updated. You can observe that the copy reflects the change: it now includes the hole.
Important: Using functional bodies created with app versions anterior to V5R14.

To perform this type of scenario with functional bodies created using app versions anterior to Version 5 Release 14, first you need to upgrade the old .CATPart document by editing any of the features it contains, then save it in Version 6. Once you have done that, you can copy and paste its functional bodies as illustrated here.
