Chamfer Definition Options
In the Chamfer.x dialog box, you can create a chamfer using various options:
Mode
The following modes are available:
- Length and Angle (Default mode, that is intersection of the two perpendiculars of the normal lines): Enter a length value and an angle value.
- Length1 and Length2: Enter two length values.
Important: The Symmetric extent option appears. Select it to define the same value for both lengths (Length 2 is no longer available). - Chordal Length/Angle: Enter a chordal length value (that is the chamfer width) and an angle value.Note:
Width = Lenght / cos (Angle)
- Height/Angle: Enter a height value (i.e. distance between the intersection of the two adjacent faces and the chamfer face) and an angle value.Note:
Height = Lenght * sin (Angle)
- Hold Curve/Angle: In the Hold Curve box, select the edge or the curve up to which the height of the chamfer is to be calculated and enter an angle value.
- Hold Curve/Length: In the Hold Curve box, select the edge or the curve up to which the height of the chamfer is to be calculated and enter a length value.
Important: For creation of a chamfer, objects to chamfer and the hold curve must belong to the same 3D part. |
Propagation
Two propagation modes are available:
- Minimal: Edges tangent to selected edges can be taken into account to some extent. The app continues creating chamfer beyond the selected edge whenever it cannot do otherwise. In the example below, the chamfer is computed on the selected edge and on a portion of tangent edges:
- Tangency: Chamfers the entire selected edge as well as its tangent edges. It continues to create the chamfer beyond the selected edge until it encounters an edge that is non-continuous in tangency as shown in our example:
Other Options
Based on your requirement you can select the following options:
- Reverse: This option is available in all modes. Selecting this reverses
the chamfer configuration.
- Corner Cap: This option is available in all modes. Selecting this caps
off the chamfer vertex.
- Symmetric Extent : This option is available only in the Length1/Length2 mode. Selecting this creates a symmetrical chamfer, that is, Length2 is same as Length1. You need to define only Length1.
