Migrating Thread Standards Files to XML

You can migrate thread standards files from .txt format to .xml format. Using the migration utility, you can perform the following operations:

  • Select a file or a folder to be migrated.
  • Select the output destination to save the migrated files.
  • Migrate the selected text files to .xml format.

You can also generate an automated report with the results of the migration for each file and save the input parameters of the utility to an xml file for future use.


Before you begin: In a .txt thread standard file, the thread values must be followed by units in mm or inch.

Creating Thread Standards
  1. From the Tools section of the action bar, click Utility .
    The Batch Monitor dialog box appears.
  2. From the Utilities tab, double-click Migrate Thread Standard To XML in the Type column.
    The Migrate Thread Standard To XML dialog box appears.
  3. Click the folder icon in the Object Selection area.
    The 3DVIA - Live File Connector Object Management dialog box appears.
  4. In the Input Options area, click one of the following migration input types:

    • Member: migrates an individual file (.txt).
    • All: migrates an entire folder containing multiple files.
    • String: migrates the file that contains a specified string. In this case, you must specify the string in the adjacent box first.

  5. Optional: Select the Extend selection to sub-directories check box to search for all the sub-directories within a folder.
  6. Optional: Select the Select by modification date check box to enable searching for files modified within a specific period.
  7. Optional: Select Replace documents to replace the previously migrated files with the same name.
  8. Optional: In the Rename Criteria area, select the appropriate options to rename the migrated files.
  9. Optional: In the Output Options area, click Change Target Directory to modify the location of the output files.

    You can select appropriate check boxes to modify the output options.

    Important: The Output Options area becomes available only after you select at least one file for migration in the Input Options area.

  10. Click OK.
    The Input Options dialog box closes and you are back to the MigrateThreadStandardToXML dialog box. The selected files are listed in the Name column.
  11. In the Report area, select the appropriate options for report generation.
  12. Optional: Click Save to save the current options for migrating the .xml files.

    This file can be used later on for a batch migration process, without the need of specifying the options again.

  13. Click Run to start the migration operation.
    • The migrated files are created in the specified directory.
    • The reports are generated in the specified output directory.
  14. Optional: Open the report file to see a log of the migration activity.

    If the migration fails, reasons of failure are indicated in this report.
