Creating Thread Standards

You can create new thread standards from the existing default standard files (Metric thin pitch and Metric thick pitch).


Before you begin:

You must have administrator rights to access and modify the thread standards.

  1. Select Me > Preferences > Standards.
  2. In the Category list, select thread.
  3. In the File list, select the .xml file from which you want to create new standards.
  4. Expand the Metric_Thick_Pitch node in the editor.
  5. Optional: Select the Key node and modify the values, as required.
    Note: When a description is not available for the thread standard, the key and thread diameter values are concatenated and used as the thread description.
  6. Optional: Select the Unit node to define unit of new standards.
    Notes:
    • A warning message is displayed if the standard unit is different from the unit specified for a model.
    • Symbol of a new unit must comply with the symbol of the unit defined in the Units area.
      Tip: To access the Units area, select Me > Preferences > Main Preferences > Modeling > Knowledge Units tab.
  7. Expand the Values node in the editor.

    The Values node contains the different values of the standard.

  8. To remove a value:
    1. Select the Values node, and click Remove instance.

      The Instance List dialog box appears.

    2. Select the value of interest and click OK.
  9. To add a value, click Add instance.
    A new value is added under Values node.
  10. Enter the values you want.
  11. Click Save As New to create a new standards file.
    Important: You can modify a standard on the fly. However, if the standard has already been used, and the design table is created, then the modifications do not affect the Hole.x and Thread.x dialog boxes.
