Selecting Severity

You can assess a severity ranking to each identified effect. The severity participates in the Action Priority (AP) or Risk Priority Number (RPN) calculation.

Before you begin: Select a cause in the corresponding cell of a causality relationship. For more information, see Editing Causes.
  1. To assess a severity, click the corresponding cell and select a value from the list.

    Note: A pattern matching and case-sensitive search is available to narrow down the list.

    The selected value is displayed in the cell and can be edited.
  2. Optional: To define another value, double-click the cell and enter text.

Note: Severities of effects are computed in the upper hierarchy of FMEAs and appear in the tile that represents each effect.
