Associating FMEAs with a System

You can analyze a system by associating one or more FMEAs with it.

In the following scenarios, the system corresponds to a logical system and an FMEA is associated with a logical component. The behavior is the same if the FMEA is associated with a function (Occurrence-Occurrence) located in the Structure Tree, or if the system is a physical system.

Create an FMEA Table

You can create an FMEA table, which is linked to an element of the Structure Tree. It is possible to associate several tables to a structure element.

  1. Expand the Structure Tree and select the node corresponding to the instance of the logical component.

    Note: You can create an FMEA, if no Preliminary Risk Assessment (PRA) is already associated with the node.

  2. From the Edit section of the action bar, click Create Analysis .

    If at least two templates are available on the server, the Choose Analysis's Template dialog box appears.

  3. Optional: From the Choose Analysis's Template dialog box, select the template to be applied.

If a template can be selected, this template is applied to the created table, otherwise the default template is applied.

Tip: You can rename the created table by selecting the node in the Structure Tree, pressing F2, and editing the title.

A child node representing the FMEA is created under the instance in the Structure Tree.

You can now load the created table to populate it.

Load an FMEA Table

You can load a table to populate it or to visualize its content.

Note: If the table is associated with a revised system, a few more actions can be done. For more information, see Loading an FMEA on a Revised System.

  1. From the Structure Tree, select the node representing the FMEA.
  2. From the Edit section of the action bar, click Load/Unload Analysis .

    The FMEA table appears in the work area with its causality relationships, if it contains causality relationships.

    You can now:

    • Create causality relationships by using Create Causality Relationship , from the Edit section of the action bar.
    • Edit causality relationships.
