Converting NX® Data Interactively

You can import NX® data interactively and convert them to tessellated or exact data.

Before you begin:

Converter for NX

  • Is available only on Windows OS.
  • Supports NX® versions from NX1 to NX 1980 (NX1984, NX1988).
  • Does not support
    • Specific format (for example piping data)
    • Drawing entities
    • Layer, color, Show/NoShow information in assembly files
    • Hidden bodies at assembly level
    • Pure wireframe data
    • Materials and textures
    • Datum plane or work-plane entities
    • Texts
    • User Defined Attributes
    • PName
    • Free body as targets
    • Semantic annotations (imported as graphic annotations)
    • Annotations seen as Assorted Parts in NX®
    • Keywords and their values (including numerical and text values that are keywords in NX®).

  1. Select the required import option in Preferences.

See External Native 3D Formats for more information.

  2. Import the NX® file as explained in Import.

The extension is .prt to convert NX® part files to a 3D Part or a CGR representation, or NX® assembly files into Products.

    Notes:
    • In Tessellated mode, the data from part files open in a root product that contains a 3D Shape representation, those of assembly files open in a product containing sub-products, containing 3D Shape representations.
    • In Exact mode, the data from a part file open in a 3D Part, those from assembly files open in a product containing 3D parts.
    • The assembly hierarchy is kept with the proper positions.
    • Assembly attributes other than hierarchy, positions, and colors of the geometry are not supported.

  3. Optional: Select the Run in Separate Process check box.
The conversion is performed in the background.

  • The data are converted, then saved in the database.
  • If the save operation fails, a failure message is displayed and the import stops.
  • The quality of imported data is checked, and a geometry quality enhancement is performed according to the corresponding option.
  • Click Cancel to interrupt the transfer at any time. The conversion is then interrupted (after the processing of the current independent entity) and the partial conversion already performed is displayed in the session.
