Converting Creo® Parametric™ or PRO/ENGINEER® Data Interactively

You can import Creo® Parametric™ or PRO/ENGINEER® data interactively and convert them to tessellated or exact data.

Before you begin:

Converter for Creo® Parametric™:

  • Is available only on Windows OS.
  • Supports PRO/ENGINEER® versions from R16 to R2001, WildFire 1 to WildFire5, and Creo® Parametric™ 1 to 8.0.
  • Does not support
    • Layer information, hidden attributes, and suppressed entities
    • Assembly color and transparency property
    • Family tables
    • Flexible assemblies
    • Part level simplified representation
    • Pure wireframe data
    • Materials and textures
    • Electrical harness data such as piping or cables in any form (B-rep or visualization).
    • Assembly level working coordinate systems. Only Part level working coordinate systems are supported.
    • User Defined Attributes
    • Texts
    • Semantic annotations (imported as graphic annotations)
    • Clipping Planes (Section Planes)
    • Multiple lumps in a single body or a lump with multiple shells (lump with void) in certain scenarios
    • Free Parts, that is assembly files that contain both BREP, such as quilts, free curves and free points, and instances.

  1. Select the required import option in Preferences.

See External Native 3D Formats for more information.

  2. Import the file as explained in Import.

    Available extensions are:

    • *.prt and *.prt.* to convert part files to a 3D Part or a CGR representation.
      Notes:
      • Only one of those extensions is allowed. When the version number is given (.prt.*), * must be a numerical value.
      • Hidden flag on a solid added to a layer by SolidGeom filter is not supported.
      • In Tessellated mode, the data open in a root product that contains a 3D Shape representation.
      • In Exact mode, the data open in a 3D Part.
    • *.asm and *.asm.* to convert assembly files. They are converted into Products.
      Notes:
      • The data are converted, then saved in the database.
      • Only one of those extensions is allowed. When the version number is given (.asm.*), * must be a numerical value.
      • The assembly hierarchy is kept with the proper positions.
      • Assembly attributes other than hierarchy, positions, and colors of the geometry are not supported.
      • Assembly level attributes are not supported on hidden data.
      • In Tessellated mode, the data open in a product containing sub-products, containing 3D Shape representations.
      • In Exact mode, the data open in a product containing 3D parts.

  3. Optional: Select the Run in Separate Process check box.
The conversion is performed in the background.

  • A progress bar is displayed while the data are converted and saved. If the save operation fails, a failure message is displayed and the import stops.
  • The quality of imported data is checked, and a geometry quality enhancement is performed according to the corresponding option.
  • Click Cancel to interrupt the transfer at any time. The conversion is then interrupted (after the processing of the current independent entity) and the partial conversion already performed is displayed in the session.
