Creating Surface Texture Symbols

You can create a surface texture symbol annotation.

Important:
  • The surface texture symbol allows you to respect the following standard parameters:
    • ISO
    • ASME
    • ANSI
    • JIS
  • These standard parameters can be modified at Me > Preferences > Standards, selecting the Drafting category. The old surface texture symbols created in previous document are migrated at edition. If you slide a new surface texture symbol outside its reference, an extension line is added, its overrun is fixed to 2mm and cannot be modified.

Before you begin: Open an existing 3D shape.

About Surface Texture
  1. Activate the Front View.x annotation plane.
  2. From the Annotation section of the action bar, Click Surface Texture .
  3. Select the required face.

Note: This scenario illustrates the creation of a surface texture symbol by selecting geometry, but you can also select any Part Design or Generative Shape Design feature in the tree. In this case, the created annotation will not be attached to the selected feature, but to its geometrical elements at the highest level.

The Surface Texture Symbol Editor dialog box appears.
  4. In the Working process box, specify the working process.
  5. Enter the required values in the Maximum roughness average box and then in the Minimum roughness average box.

Note: The profile parameter list does not contain engineering symbols. These are simple text strings that assist in inserting the parameters quickly.

These parameters always have DS ISO 1 font even if the font of surface texture feature is different. However, if the font of the surface texture feature is changed after inserting the parameters, the font of the parameters is also modified and they are visualized incorrectly.

This parameter list is available only for specific boxes.

  6. Specify the surface texture symbol, the graphical symbol, and the direction of lay.

You can also enter the values of machining allowance, first requirement, and second requirement.

You can add new 3D leaders in the 3D area or switch current 2D leaders to 3D to position the leader outside the annotation plane. For more information, see Adding a 3D Leader.

  7. Click OK.
The surface texture symbol is created without a leader. To add one, see Adding Leaders and Using Breakpoints.
Note: While creating or modifying the surface texture symbol, to reverse the direction of the symbol, click the red manipulator. The manipulator is not available when there is a leader added to the surface texture annotation.
