About Ramps and Haulage Roads

Ramps and haulage roads connect the benches, allowing equipment to move freely about the pit and for hauling ore and waste out of the pit.

Creating a Ramp

Surface mining is the process of extracting rocks from the earth's surface. Extracting from an open-pit is carried out in a series of steps that are repeated continuously during surface mine operation. The steps include drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling.

Ramps and haulage roads are key features required for the mine pit operation. Creating a ramp involves determining how the ramp should go up based on specific parameters, such as the ramp rate (also referred to as the ramp slope angle), the ramp width, and the minimum radius values. Before creating any ramp, you must specify ramp parameters using the Pit Parameters command.

You can create a circular ramp () from a starting point at the bottom, going up to a bench () clockwise or counterclockwise.

Notes:
  • You can only select a point that lies on a toe of the selected bottom bench as a bottom entry point.
  • The exit bench you select must be located upper to the toe where is located the bottom entry point.
  • Two switchbacks () cannot be located on the same bench.
