Importing OMF Data Interactively

You can import OMF data interactively and convert them into CATIA geometry.

Before you begin: Converter for OMF
  • Supports data and metadata described by GMG OMF as of February 2018
  • Does not support:
    • Large-sized point clouds (>100 000 points)
    • Volumes (block models)
    • Boreholes (other than as lines)
    • Gridded surfaces or splines
    • Triangulations with textures
Note: Files can also be imported using DataExchangePLMBatch.
  1. In the top bar, select Add > Import.
  2. In the Required section, from the Format list, select OpenMiningFormat (*.omf) to convert:
    • Triangulations as closed and open tessellated surfaces
    • Lines (including boreholes stored as lines)
    • Small-medium-sized point sets

They are converted into VPLM product Structures, Part Design features, and CGR objects.

  3. From the Source list, select:
    • File on disk: to import a file from the selected drive.

By default, this option is selected.

    • Exchange Space: to retrieve and import a file from the exchange space available in Program Central.
    • Collaborative Space: to retrieve and import a file from the Collaborative Space you are logged into.
Note: If the DLName setting is activated, this option is not applicable.

For more information about the import of Exchange Space and Collaborative Space, see Importing Content using Exchange Space Process.

  4. In the Location box, enter the path of the directory from which you want to import the file, or click the icon in the box to browse for the directory.
  5. In the Filename box, enter the name of the object you want to import. Alternatively, click the icon to browse the files list.
If the DLName is activated, you can select the DLName, the FileName, and the Format.
  6. To select specific objects in the OMF file for import, in the Options section, on the General tab, select the Filter Objects check box.
  7. In the Select Objects To import dialog box, select the objects you want to import.
Tip: Click Clear Selection to clear all check boxes, or Select All to select every check box.
  8. Click OK.
  9. In the Options section, click the Report tab.
  10. To save the generated report in a specific location, select the Save Report check box.
    Notes:
    • If you chose any of the Source options (File on disk, Exchange Space, Collaborative Space), you can edit the report name while importing documents.
    • If the DLName setting is activated, the Location box of the Report tab is always populated with the defined DLName or a default DLName.
    • If you select File on disk or Collaborative Space as source, you can choose a location to save the report.
  11. Click Ok.

After the data has been imported, the Operation Report dialog box appears, providing a summary of the import and the option to open the report.

The imported data is visible in the tree and you can display it in the work area.
