You can set up the mesh size of all the parts of an assembly.

Before you begin: Specify a design space. For more information, see Selecting Parts for the Topology Optimization.

About Meshing
  1. From the Validation section of the Topology Optimization assistant, select Setup validation.
  2. In the Setup validation dialog box, click Configure.
  3. Define the mesh size.

You can click Auto to set up a default size corresponding to the pointed geometry, enter a value, or use the up and down arrows.

  4. Optional: From the Expert options area, select the element type:
    OptionDescription
Tetrahedron Creates a surface mesh, then fills the model with tetrahedron elements (more accurate).
Octree Tetrahedron Creates a mesh of tetrahedron elements extending outward from the center of the model to the surface (faster).
    Notes:
    • Types are displayed if you have selected the Display mesh type option option. For more information, see Functional Generative Design: General.
    • Profiles are available if the sequence is a validation case.
    • If you select a meshed part in the list, it is highlighted in both tree and 3D area. Conversely, if you select a body in the tree, the matching meshed part is highlighted in the list.
  5. Select the element order:
    OptionDescription
    Linear Creates linear tetrahedron elements.
    Quadratic Creates quadratic tetrahedron elements.
  6. To display meshing information, click Display.
The Meshing Information panel displays information about the quality of the mesh:
    • The Quality tab lists the number and percentage of good, poor, bad, and worst elements relative to all the quality criteria.
    • The Types tab lists the number of nodes, elements, and the type of elements used.
