About Analytical Rigid Surfaces

The surface geometry that supports an analytical rigid surface must be a preexisting component in the product assembly.

Defining Analytical Rigid Surfaces

If an appropriate surface for an analytical rigid surface does not exist in the model, you must create the geometry. You can create geometry in various apps, such as Generative Shape Design using the Extrude or Revolve tools. You can also add surface geometry to your model using any assembly definition app, such as Assembly Design or Live Compose. You can use a product structure definition app such as VPM Physical Editor, but these apps include only limited component positioning tools.

The shape of the surface must adhere to the following conventions:

  • The surface must be defined by a profile of line segments that is either revolved around an axis or extruded in a single direction.

You must use either the Revolve or Extrude tool in the Generative Shape Design app to create this surface.
  • The profile defining the surface must be continuous and open.
  • The line segments making up the profile must be straight lines or circular arcs.
  • Each circular arc in the profile must be less than 179ยบ.

Once the surface geometry has been added to your model, you can define the analytical rigid surface.
