Defining Analytical Rigid Surfaces

You can apply an analytical rigid surface constraint to define a single-sided rigid contact surface whose motion is controlled by the motion of a single point. Analytical rigid surfaces offer reduced computational expense as compared to element-based rigid surfaces or deformable surfaces.

An analytical rigid surface is described by a series of connected lines and curves that have been extruded along a straight line or rotated about an axis.

  1. From the Analysis Setup section of the assistant, click Abstractions.
  2. From the Abstractions dialog box, select Analytical Rigid Surface in the New list.
  3. Optional: Enter a descriptive Name.
  4. Select a geometry support.

  5. Select a Point on the model or a node-based group that contains a single node as the reference point for motion of the surface.
  6. Optional: Click Flip direction to change the expected contact direction of the surface.

The contact side of the surface renders with a woven pattern; the noncontact side appears smooth.

  7. Click OK.
