Defining Advanced Properties

You can define advanced properties for points, polygons and lines contained in simple features, POIs, or datasets in preview. The primitives of each sub-element of the dataset will have a customized property value, computed from its attribute value and from the rule defined on the dataset.

This functionality is available for the following attributes:

  • Color (for all dataset types)
  • Opacity (for all dataset types)
  • Scale (for points)
  • Line Width (for polygons and lines)
  • Extrusion Height (for polygons).

Use Mapping Method

You can use a direct mapping on an attribute. Regarding colors, the color must be correctly formatted (in hexadecimal or RGB format).

  1. From the standard section of the action bar, click Properties .
  2. In the Attributes area, click the button next to the property to be customized.
  3. Click then select Set attribute.

    The default value or color is displayed in the top part of the panel.

  4. In the Method list, select Mapping.
  5. In the Attribute list, select the attribute to be used.

    Attributes displayed in this list are GIS attributes.

  6. Enter the appropriate values or a multiplying factor.
  7. Close the panel.
    The heights applied in your experience correspond to the values defined in the previous step.

  8. Optional: Click Set value to restore the default value settings in the Properties panel.

Use Range Method

You can define ranges for a numerical attribute.

  1. From the standard section of the action bar, click Properties .
  2. In the Attributes area, click the button next to the property to be customized.
  3. Click then select Set attribute.
  4. In the Method list, select Range.
  5. In the Attribute list, select the attribute to be used.
  6. Click the + sign to add the first range corresponding to the numerical values you have in your dataset.
    In our example, areas with an energy consumption comprised between 0 and 499 will be displayed in green:

  7. Optional: Repeat the previous step as many times as necessary to add more ranges.

    Ranges are automatically ordered.

    In our example, four ranges have been defined:
    • Energy consumption comprised between 0 and 500 is displayed in green.
    • Energy consumption comprised between 501 and 1000 is displayed in light yellow.
    • Energy consumption comprised between 1001 and 2000 is displayed in dark yellow.
    • Energy consumption comprised between 2001 and 4000 is displayed in pink.


  8. Close the panel.
    Colors are updated in your experience.

  9. Optional: Click Set value to restore the default value settings in the Properties panel.

Use Conditional Method

You can define equality tests on attribute values.

  1. From the standard section of the action bar, click Properties .
  2. In the Attributes area, click the button next to the property to be customized.
  3. Click then select Set attribute.
  4. In the Method list, select Conditional.
  5. In the Attribute list, select the attribute to be used.
  6. Click the + sign, then add the first condition in the Value box and set the corresponding scale you want to see.
  7. Optional: Repeat the previous step as many times as necessary to add more conditions.
    In the example below, we set the opacity of areas with an average energy consumption of 3 to 0.8, those with an average consumption of 6 to 0.5, and so on.

  8. Close the panel.
    Your experience is updated to display exact matches. For attributes which do not match any condition, the default value is applied (Opacity=1 in our example).

  9. Optional: Click Set value to restore the default value settings in the Properties panel.

Use Ramp Method

You can define a color gradient based on a numerical attribute.

Before you begin:

This method is available on the color property of the following datasets:

  • Points (simple features, datasets in preview and POI datasets)
  • Polygons (simple feature datasets and datasets in preview)
  • Lines (simple feature datasets and datasets in preview).

  1. From the standard section of the action bar, click Properties .
  2. In the Attributes area, click the button next to the Color property.
  3. Click then select Set attribute.
  4. In the Method list, select Ramp.
  5. In the Attribute list, select the attribute to be used.
  6. Click the + sign to add the first numerical value and use the color chooser to select the associated color.
  7. Optional: Repeat the previous step at least once to add another condition.

    Important: At least two conditions must be defined but you can define more conditions if needed.

    In the example below, four conditions have been defined:



    • All values lower than the first value use the first color (red in our example).
    • All values greater than the last value use the last color (green in our example).
    • Between the first and last values, the color is computed by linear interpolation to define the color gradient.


  8. Optional: Click Reset to default value to restore the default color value.
  9. Close the panel.

    Datasets are colorized according to the defined values.
