Planetary Navigation
The planetary navigation is a specific navigation based on the nearest planet. When navigating, the camera moves around the planet and follows the ground. By default, the planetary navigation is active.
To turn on the planetary navigation mode, do one of the following:
- From the Essentials section of the action bar, click Planetary Navigation.
- From the Essentials section of the action bar, click Help. In the Help panel, select the Planetary Navigation.
The following tips help you navigate an environment. You can choose between the AZERTY or QWERTY modes.
Orientation
To orient the view to the left, press A. To orient the view to the right, press E.
Movements
When you move to the left or right, the viewpoint of the camera moves as well. The navigation is automatically corrected to follow the curvature of the planet.
The automatic level correction enables you to always stay perpendicular to the planet surface and to create the illusion of navigating a perfect flat ground (especially when navigating long distances at low altitude).
Stationary Mode
When you fly over an environment, a specific stationary mode is available.
This mode enables you to keep the same altitude when you navigate in any direction.
Speed Ratio
The navigation is based on the speed ratio, which is controlled by your mouse wheel and the altitude of the camera.
The speed ratio is useful for long-distance navigation. For example, you can quickly navigate from Earth to the Moon at maximum speed.
When you create or save a favorite or a viewpoint, the speed ratio is also saved.
When you scroll the mouse wheel, different types of speed ratios are available:
- Slow: to review details
- Medium: to explore terrain surfaces or environments
- Fast: to explore space
