The Heart Model Simulation Processes

The Heart Model includes a family of simulation processes that help you analyze the Heart Model after making changes.

The table below lists the simulation processes that are provided with the Heart Model and describes when you should run each process. The naming conventions for the files differ somewhat for on-premises and on-cloud installations.

Table 1. Simulation Processes
Simulation Process Description
On premises: 01_3DX_Living_Heart_Simulation_Experience.3dxml Run the electrical and mechanical simulation sequentially. The results of the electrical model are used to drive the mechanical model. You use this simulation process to run the default, unmodified Heart Model.
On cloud: 3DX_Living_Heart_Simulation_Cloud_Experience_Type_01.3dxml
On premises: 02_3DX_Living_Heart_Simulation_Experience.3dxml Run a mechanical simulation based on a pre-existing set of results from the electrical model. You use this simulation process when you have made no changes to the default, unmodified electrical model, but you have modified the mechanical model.
On cloud: 3DX_Living_Heart_Simulation_Cloud_Experience_Type_02.3dxml
On premises: 03_3DX_Living_Heart_Simulation_Experience.3dxml Run a mechanical simulation when you have modified any mechanical properties of any portion of the model, including the properties related to the blood flow model. You should also run this simulation process if you have modified any of the loads, boundary conditions, or constraints in the Pre-Load step.
On cloud: 3DX_Living_Heart_Simulation_Cloud_Experience_Type_03.3dxml
On premises: 04_3DX_Living_Heart_Simulation_Experience.3dxml Run a mechanical simulation when you have modified any mechanical properties of any portion of the model, including the properties related to the blood flow model, and you have remeshed any portion of the model. You must remesh the electrical model before executing this simulation process. The process remaps the fiber orientations in both models, re-runs the electrical simulation, and uses the new set of results from the electrical model to drive the mechanical simulation.
On cloud: 3DX_Living_Heart_Simulation_Cloud_Experience_Type_04.3dxml
On premises: 05_3DX_Living_Heart_Simulation_Experience.3dxml Run only the electrical simulation. You use this simulation process after modifying the electrical model.
On cloud: 3DX_Living_Heart_Simulation_Cloud_Experience_Type_05.3dxml

Each of the simulation processes includes the following steps:

  • Generate an Abaqus input file from the simulation object
  • Download Abaqus include files from the 3DEXPERIENCE platform
  • Invoke Python scripts that incorporate the include files in the input file
  • Upload the finalized input file back to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, for reference
  • Execute simulations and upload the simulation results to the simulation object
