About Applying Insulation

Insulation can be applied with or without using insulation specification. Once the insulation is applied then you can check the insulation properties using the Edit > Properties command.

Insulation Specification

The insulation specification can be associated to an Insulation Part table. It can be defined for a HVAC logical object.

While applying the insulation, the insulation specification is retrieved from the HVAC line logical object.

You can check the insulation specification for a HVAC line logical object using the Edit > Properties command.

Filtration

When you create a Line ID, you can specify the Operating Temperature in the Properties dialog box. Then, when you use the Insulation option, only insulations with the required Equivalent Diameter and the Operating Temperature value between the minimum and the maximum temperature appear in the Insulation Definition dialog box.

Insulation Modes

Insulation can be added/modified in the following three different modes:

Non Spec

The Insulation Part table (for which the insulation specification is "any value") is used for selecting the insulation.

In Spec

The Insulation Part table comes from the Data Setup with one insulation specification criterium. This insulation specification is retrieved through the insulated object (a duct or part and the HVAC line that contains the insulation specification).

Out of Spec

A list of insulation specification defined in Data Setup appears in the dialog box. You can select the desired one from the list. The Insulation Part table of the insulation specification selected is used for selecting the insulation.

Note: The data in Insulation Part table is filtered by the equivalent diameter of the base duct.

Important: In Spec and Out of Spec options are available if you have a CATIA Systems Generative Piping and Tubing license.

Insulation Object

The insulation object is added below the base object in the tree.

You can check the insulation properties using the Edit > Properties command in the context menu.

Analyze Insulation Object

You can check the insulation properties using the Analyze Item command.

To check the insulation properties, select Modify > Analyze > Analyze Item and select the insulation object in the tree.

The Analyze Item Data dialog box appears displaying insulation properties: part number, location, insulation type, insulation thickness, length, and linear weight.

Insulation Integration

If you select the insulation part, the base part is selected for further modifications like placing part, modifying duct etc., in the HVAC network.


Command	Effect
Rigid Duct / Flexible Duct	You can continue routing before and after the route extremity of insulated route. The insulation object will not be modified if you add nodes, it becomes a partial route. If you insert, delete or replace a node on an insulated route, the insulation object will be updated to reflect the node list change. If you replace the route extremity, the associated insulation object will be updated to reflect the route extremity node change. If you modified the route, the associated insulation object will be updated. You can branch from/to an insulated route.
Place Part	You can place a part on a insulated duct extremity. The insulation object will be updated to reflect that the duct extremity had just imported a port. You can insert a part between a part and an insulated route. You cannot place a part on an insulated duct segment or on the internal node of the insulated duct.
Delete	When deleting a part, if one of the connecting ducts is insulated, then the ducts are not merged.
Connect	You can connect a part to an insulated duct. The insulation object will be updated to reflect that the duct extremity had just imported a port.
Disconnect	You can disconnect a part from an insulated duct. The insulation object will be updated to reflect that the duct extremity had just deleted a port.
