About Display Modes

This section deals with basic concepts you should know before using display modes.

Display modes let you control the appearance of the geometry. For each display mode, different options are available.

Using Display Modes

To display or hide display modes, do one of the following:

  • Click the corresponding Activate icon in the panel.
  • Alt + click in the work area or on an object and select a display mode in the mouse menu.

The mouse menu offers the display modes Controls, Wire, Shade, and Analysis most frequently used. Selecting a display mode in the mouse menu shows or hides the display options in the Display Modes panel.

In the panels, you can select further display modes and options.

Controls display mode lets you select subobject display options such as control points, Greville points.

Geometry Display section
Wire and Shade display modes let you assign wire and shading options to surfaces.
Set up lighting for the standard materials Default , Silver , and Clay
When activating one of these materials, all light emitted by the ambience is deactivated and exactly one directional light is automatically created. You can specify a fixed intensity and color.
By default, the light is attached to the view and has the view direction. You can modify the direction with the Default Materials Light Settings options in the Display section in Me > PreferencesApp Preferences > 3D Modeling > Styling > ICEM Design Experience.
Visibility section
Lets you show or hide object types.
Visualize section
Lets you activate rendering functionalities.

ICEM Design Experience display modes support local and global mode.

  • Explicit local mode: Assigns a display mode to selected objects.
  • Implicit local mode: Assigns a display mode to a preselected object. You can select this mode also in the mouse menu.
  • Global: If nothing is selected, a display mode is assigned to all objects.
