About Soft Parametric

This section deals with basic concepts you should know before using Soft Parametrics.

Working with SoftParametrics

Depending on the selected Softparametric option, the result contains the following information:

  • operation parameters, that is, for example, length and angle of a flange surface created with OmniSurf command, surface type Surface Curve,
  • derived conditions, that is, for example, the continuity between input element and result,
  • analysis of continuity deviations
Important:
  • A datum or feature element is not re-computed if all conditions are kept, as in this case, sculpting the input geometry has no impact on the result.
  • Features in the Adapt, Rebuild, Reshape, and AutoReshape modes are only updated dynamically, if
    • the Play mode is active in the Organize panel and
    • the Automatic update mode is selected in Me > Preferences > Common Preferences > Object Properties > Infrastructure tab, Update section.

The table below gives an overview over the update behavior of the Soft Parametric Update modes. As example is used a flange surface OmniSurf Surf Type Surface Curve with G0 condition, a length of 40mm and an angle of 90deg.

Datum

Simple datum.

Contains no information.

No update No update
Inactive

Extended datum.

Contains information about operation parameters and conditions.

No update

Condition is not kept.

Operation parameters are not recomputed.

No Analysis display.

No update of the modified result.

Double-click the result resets modified operation parameters to original settings and opens the command panel.

Alert

Extended datum.

Contains information about operation parameters, conditions, and analyses

No update

Condition is not kept.

Operation parameters are not recomputed.

Analysis displays the condition not kept. In the tree, the icon is displayed.

Same behavior as with Inactive.

Adapt

Feature

Condition is kept.

Operation parameters are not recomputed and modified to keep the condition.

Same behavior as with Inactive and Alert.

Rebuild

Feature

Condition is kept.

Operation parameters are recomputed.

Same behavior as with Inactive, Alert, and Adapt.

Reshape

Feature

Same behavior as with Rebuild.

Modified operation parameters are recomputed.

Modifications of inner constraints of the input geometry are not taken into account.

AutoReshape

Feature

Same behavior as with Rebuild and Reshape.

In the case of unmodified inner constraints of the input geometry same behavior as with Reshape.

Modified inner constraints are taken into account.
