ICEM Design Experience

ICEM Design Experience is a modeling app for creating high-quality surfaces, also called Class A surfaces. It provides optimized tools for highly sensitive shape analysis and precise direct surface editing ("precision and control" paradigm).

ICEM Design Experience is a tool

  • for stylists and designers creating high-end design shape from scratch ("form finding")
  • for Class A surfacing specialists creating high-end design shapes from 3D scans of clay models ignoring topology or feature integrity ("surface reconstruction", or "Strak" in German-speaking countries).

ICEM Design Experience combines the best of two competing modeling approaches:

  • Direct surface modelling: Control point modification (Sculpting) of every surface is possible even in parallel to active commands.
  • Parametric modelling: The shape is composed of features with parameters, defined by a sequence of commands with well-defined input and output curves and surfaces resulting in a feature tree.

Innovative user experience (UX): Sculpting is very intense work with mouse and keyboard, so the user interface of ICEM Design Experience was heavily optimized, accommodating lessons learned from leading legacy solutions such as ICEM Surf. Consequently, ICEM Surf users should "feel at home" quite rapidly. However, CATIA users will find some particular differences to other 3DEXPERIENCE apps. They are solely caused by workflow optimizations for those who work many hours every day in high-end surfacing.
