Selecting Multiple Surfaces

You can select multiple surfaces and perform modifications on them.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Create a 3D shape containing two subdivision surfaces.

Modify Multiple Surfaces

You can select several surfaces to modify them.

  1. Select the first surface.
  2. From the Shape Sculpt section of the action bar, click Modification .
  3. From the Tools Palette, click Translation .
  4. Click Multi-Selection and then press Ctrl to select the second surface.
  5. Move the pointer to highlight the desired axis or plane and drag to translate the surfaces.

  6. Release the pointer when you are satisfied with the new position of the surfaces.

Use a Subdivision Surface to Modify Another One

You can select a surface to modify another one.

  1. From the Shape Sculpt section of the action bar, click Modification .
  2. From the Tools Palette, click Robot Definition .
  3. Click Alignment .
  4. Select the multiple edges or vertices on the first subdivision surface to be aligned onto the second subdivision surface.
Tip: You can press Ctrl to select several faces, as well as adding, removing, modifying the selected faces.

  5. Click on the handle to project the edges.

Important:
  • All modification commands can be applied to multiple surfaces.
  • When you work with more than one subdivision surface, and if the Working Zone command is activated, then it will be activated for the entire selected subdivision surfaces, and vice versa. See Defining the Working Zone.
  • If you have selected faces, edges or vertices of a subdivision surface and then deselected the subdivision surface, selecting this subdivision surface again will highlight all previously selected elements.
