Smoothing the Base Mesh

You can restructure the position of the vertices of the mesh.


Before you begin: Create a 3D shape containing a subdivision surface.

  1. Select the subdivision surface.
  2. From the Shape Sculpt section of the action bar, click Smooth Mesh .
  3. From the Tools Palette, click one of the following:
    OptionDescription
    Automatic Selection Selects any kind of element (faces, edges, and vertices)
    Face Selection Selects faces only
    Edge Selection Selects edges only
    Vertex Selection Selects vertices only
    All Elements Selection Selects all elements
    Selection Inversion Inverts the selection
    Apply (Enter) Validates the previewed result of the smoothing
    A slider appears at the right of the screen to let you define the value of the smoothing, comprised between 0 and 100%.
  4. Select the elements.
  5. Drag and move the pointer over the slider to reach the desired value.
    The result is previewed in low-light mode.

  6. Click Apply (Enter) .
    Tip: You can perform the same operations as many times as needed until you are satisfied with the new shape of the surface.
