Creating a Bevel

You can create a bevel to increase the density of the mesh by replacing one edge by several ones.


Before you begin: Create a 3D shape containing a subdivision surface.

Accessing Transformation Commands
  1. From the Shape Sculpt section of the action bar, click Bevel .

    You can also access this command by pressing ALT+SHIFT+U.

  2. Select the subdivision surface.
    A slider helps you define the number of cuts.
  3. From the Tools Palette, click one of the following:
    OptionDescription
    Linear Bevel Creates a linear bevel.
    Convex Bevel Creates a convex bevel.
    Concave Bevel Creates a concave bevel.
    Attraction Modifies the weight.
    Smooth/Sharp Attraction Defines the attraction mode. This icon has two states: the default state gives a sharp edge and Smooth Attraction (activated when clicking ) gives a smooth edge.
    Corner Type Defines the corner type.
    Propagation Propagates edges.
    Apply Validates the command.
  4. Choose the bevel type and select an edge.
  5. Click and move the pointer to modify the bevel size.


  6. Use the slider to modify the number of cuts.


  7. Click Apply (Enter) and then select another edge.
  8. From the Tools Palette, click Corner Type to manage the bevel in a corner.
    • : Creates the bevel with a minimum of triangular faces but more deformations (default mode).

    • : Creates the bevel with less deformation but more triangular faces.

  9. From the Tools Palette, click Attraction .
  10. Use the slider to modify the weight on the bevel.
