About Switching Index and Authoring Modes

You can switch between Index mode and Authoring mode. By default, the Index mode is active.

When you open an object, the page toolbar shows one of these icons whether the Use Index option is selected or not:

Selected Never Index mode is turned on. The message is displayed with the details related to the last refresh and last the indexing.
Selected T minutes Index mode is turned on. The message is displayed with the details related to the last refresh and last the indexing.

The authoring mode switches to index mode after T minutes since your last update.



Selected T minutes Authoring mode is turned on. Index mode is reactivated within the specified minutes after the last authoring process. The message is displayed with the details related to the last update and the last indexing.
Selected Never Authoring mode is turned on. The message is displayed with the details related to the last update and the last indexing.


Cleared Not applicable Authoring mode is turned on. The message is displayed with the details related to the last update and the last indexing.

Where,

T: Specifies 1, 3, 5, or 10 minutes, which are selected in the Edit preferences option. By default, 3 minutes are selected.

To change the duration, select Preferences in the toolbar and choose an option under Auto switch from Authoring mode to Index mode. For more information, see Customizing Preferences

The following table provides the summary of different configurations whether the Use Index option is selected or not and the Index or Authoring mode is active:

Selected T minutes Index Mode In the index mode, the mode is switched to the authoring mode with the latest available data.

The Index view is also updated with the latest data.

In the authoring mode, the mode is switched to the index mode.

In the index mode, the mode is switched to the authoring mode with the latest available data.

There is no change occurred in the authoring mode.

In the index mode, the mode is remained as the index mode.

In the authoring mode, the mode is switched to the index mode after the time is specified in the Auto switch from Authoring mode to Index mode option.

Cleared Not applicable Authoring Mode The Switch Mode option is disabled. The mode is remained as the authoring mode. The authoring mode active and the operations can be performed in the authoring mode.

Notes:
  • The Classification Attributes tab details are displayed in the authoring mode whether the mode is selected as the index or authoring modes.
  • By default when the mode is switched to index mode after the T minutes, the content view is not refreshed.
  • By default, the 6WTags are supported in the index mode hence the 6WTags are not present in the authoring mode.
