About Floorings

Floorings can define areas within a building.

You can use the Flooring option to set the flooring for a space or for an area in the building project that you define with a closed profile sketch. The app uses the shape of the space or the sketch to determine the shape of the flooring.

All floorings have two floor components:

  • Sub-floor - The floor that goes directly on the structural slab to insulate and smooth the surface.
  • Floor - The top finishing surface, such as carpet, tile, wood, or laminate flooring.
Each floor component has its own thickness value, which you can set.

Since you can create closed profile sketches for flooring inside, outside, or partially inside and partially outside the building, the app has you define the flooring for the closed sketches as one of the following:

ParameterDescription
AddedFlooring is both inside and outside the building.
InteriorFlooring is only inside the building.
Exterior Flooring is only outside the building, for example, for a second story patio.

Whenever, you need more than one value for a parameter, create another flooring. For floorings you create from a closed profile sketch, also create additional floorings when you plan to change either the flooring material for the sub-floor or finish. For example, if an open area floor has a carpet portion and a tile portion, create two closed profile sketches, one for each flooring material. Once you create the floorings on a story, you can use the Copy to Story function to copy them to another story.
