Creating a View from 3D

You can generate views from the following apps:

  • 3D Tolerancing & Annotation
  • 2D Layout for 3D Design
Note: You can create a view from a 2D Layout for 3D Design view which uses a generative view style. In this case, the generative view style is entirely managed in the 2D Layout for 3D Design view and layout.

Before you begin:
  • Open a representation of a 3D part or assembly containing 3D Tolerancing & Annotation annotations or a layout.
  • From the Compass, click Drafting.
  • Go to Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Mechanical Systems > Drafting > View section and make sure that:
    • Exact view is selected as the view generation mode under View Generation (other view generation modes - CGR, Approximate and Raster - are not supported).
    • Generate 2D Geometry is selected under View from 3D (this specifies that 2D geometry should be generated).
  • Ensure that the drawing range is compatible. See, About Generating Drawings from a Layout

About Views from 3D
  1. From the View Layout section of the action bar, click View From 3D .
    For more information about view from 3D, see View from 3D.
  2. Select a view from the 3D, either in the tree or on the part.
    • If you are creating a view from 3D Tolerancing & Annotation: the view to be created is previewed (included annotations) on the sheet. You cannot modify the view orientation, but you can modify the view position by dragging it using the pointer.
      Note: View From 3D allows the selection of FTA views in only an authoring annotation set whose annotations are editable.
    • If you are creating a view from 2D Layout for 3D Design: no preview is available.
    Note: When you generate a drafting view, the extension line of an annotation appears only if it is attached to the extension of the referenced geometry.
  3. Click the drawing sheet at the location where you want to create the new view.
    The view is created in the drawing, and listed in the drawing tree.
