About Tab and Widget Management

This section describes the details about the creation and management of tabs, widgets, and windows specific to 2D Layout for 3D Design. For more information, see Native Apps Tabs.

Opening the 2D Layout for 3D Design app without any existing tabs
Case 1: If you open the 2D Layout for 3D Design app without any existing tabs, then a new tab opens. This tab contains both 2D and 3D windows in two different widgets.
Case 2: If a widget containing the 3D window already exists in a tab, then opening the 2D Layout for 3D Design app opens a new tab. This tab contains both 2D and 3D windows in two different widgets.
If the Tile widget when activating layout option in Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Mechanical Systems > 2D Layout for 3D Design > Layout expander, under Layout Widget is selected, then the newly created widgets are tiled. Else, they are in a maximized state.
For more information, see Layout.
Opening the 2D Layout for 3D Design app with at least one existing tab
If the Create widget in a new section option in Me > Preferences > Common Preferences > Display > Widget Layout section, under Widget Creation is selected, then the new 2D and 3D windows are created in a new tab. Else, they are created in the same tab.
If the Tile widget when activating layout option selected, then the newly created widgets are tiled.
Window activation
If a 2D window is closed and later opened again, then it is opened in the same section as the existing 3D window. Similarly, if a 3D window is closed and later opened again, then it is opened in the same section as the existing 2D window.
This process obeys the existing selection of the Tile widget when activating layout option.
Reordering the widgets
It is possible to reorder the widgets. With reordering you can do the following:
  • Tile vertically
  • Tile horizontally
  • Change the order of the widgets within the same section
  • Drag the widget to a new section
