About Principal Views

You can create principal views from a primary view plane.

However, there are a few things that you need to know when creating principal views. This topic provides more information about it.

Primary View Plane and View Box Resizing

To change the primary view plane and resize automatically the view bounding box, you need to:

Change primary view plane and Resize view box according to 3D model options are selected by default, see Principal Views settings.

The following scenarios are possible depending on the selection of these options:

  • When only the option Change primary view plane is selected, then, you can select the following elements, but cannot resize the view bounding box:
    • Planes
    • Sketches
    • Axis systems
    • 3D Tolerancing & Annotation Views
  • When only the option Resize view box according to 3D model is selected, then, you can select all model elements, but you cannot modify the primary view plane.
  • When both the options are selected, then, you can change the primary view plane by selecting any of the elements as explained in scenario 1, and also resize the view bounding box.
  • When both of these options are deselected, then, selection of a reference element is not available. So if you click in the 3D window, the command is ended.

General Remarks

Creating Other Principal Views from the Primary View

When using the Principal Views command to create other projection views, the view type of the new view is set according to the position of the pointer.

Using View Creation Commands

During the view creation commands (Principal Views, View From Reference, View From Profile), you can manipulate the created view to position it in the sheet. In that case, pointer represents the position of the center of the view bounding box, so it is different than the view origin. The view bounding box takes into account the 3D background of the view, except infinite elements (like 3D plane).

In case of view bounding box of null size, the pointer represents the position of the view origin.

View From Reference and Change View Support

The following elements can be selected as reference in the 3D Shape's layout or in another 3D Shape:

  • 3D planes.
  • Sketches.
  • 3D Tolerancing & Annotation Views.
  • 3D Tolerancing & Annotation Captures, but only when this one belongs to the 3D Shape 's layout.
  • 2D Layout for 3D Design Views.
  • 3D Faces.
  • Planes from plane system feature.
Important:

When a view requires to be associative with the reference, only compliant elements can be selected.
