About Constraints Creation

You need to know a few background information about constraint creation in 2D Layout for 3D Design.

The following are discussed:

This page discusses:

Before You Begin

If you want constraints to be created, make sure the Show Constraints command is active in the View section of the action bar and optionally the Create Detected Constraints command is active in the Sketch section of the action bar, before you start creating constraints. For more information, see About Using Layout Tools.

Maximum Number of Elements

A constraint applies to up to three elements.

Constraint Creation via Smartpick

Constraints are created either through the constraint commands or via SmartPick. When you use SmartPick, you detect geometrical constraints dynamically.

But SmartPick can simply be used to automatically detect constraints without necessarily creating them. For more information, see the Using SmartPick task in the 3D Modeling: 3D Modeling Core: Sketcher User's Guide.

Constraint Creation via Smartpick

In the 2D Layout for 3D Design app, dimensional constraints do not exist as such. It is by creating driving dimensions that you can drive constrained geometry.
