Managing Multipliers and Tone Mapping

You can manage some multipliers and tone mapping parameters when creating new materials or decals.

Before you begin:
  • Tone mapping is not available for materials or decals created before 2022x.
  • When you duplicate a material, its tone mapping parameters are duplicated as well.
  • Tone mapping is not supported for substances.

Modifying Decals
  1. In the Appearance Domain dialog box, click a texture thumbnail.
  2. In the panel that opens, modify the multipliers as required.
    ParameterDescription
Color Multiplier This multiplier is used on the fetched color value, then it is used to compute the color.
Texture Multiplier This parameter is used as a scalar multiplier on the fetched texture value, then it is used to compute the texture.

  3. Click Enable Tone Mapping to activate the associated parameters, then use the sliders or enter your own values in the appropriate box.

If you specify a value that is out of range or invalid, it is adjusted to the closest limit.

    ParameterDescription
Exposure Lets you specify how dark or bright the texture is.

    The default is 0.

Contrast -1 is the minimum contrast (a gray image), and +1 is the maximum contrasted image.

    The default is 0.

Saturation Lets you define the color intensity.

The higher the number, the more intense the color. The default is 1.

When you modify a parameter, a new texture is dynamically computed and updated in real time in the 3D area.

    Tips:
    • Press Tab to navigate between parameters from top to bottom.
    • Press Shift + Tab to navigate between parameters from bottom to top.

Depending on the texture type, not all the parameters detailed above are available:

    • For the Bump Texture type, tone mapping parameters not available.
    • For the Scalar Texture type, the Color Multiplier and Saturation parameters are not available.
    • For the Color Texture type, the Multiplier parameter is not available.
